Like everyone, I battle depression from time to time.
I find myself more susceptible to it during these upcoming winter months.
The fact that it is dark before I even leave work combined with the onslaught of snow and cold weather combine to give me cabin fever.
The fact that I hate driving in winter conditions also limits some of the options that I typically have regarding night life and activities.
It really messes up my inner game.
I’m preparing myself this year by studying up on how to cure depression.
Sure you can take prescribed pills and sort out your thoughts with a shrink…
But I was looking for more natural techniques.
I checked out several reputable online resources and they all seemed to have the same solutions…
1. Exercise and work out
2. Eat healthy
3. Get plenty of sleep
If you are looking for a guide on how to work out and eat healthy, many people in the community recommend getting the Adonis Effect.
Obviously when you are depressed you probably are not going to be eager to exercise and eat good…
But good things come to those who push themselves to do things that they don’t want to do.
In addition, I think it is important to get involved in social activities and hobbies that you didn’t have time to do in the summer and fall.
I’ve personally signed up for yoga classes, not to meet women, but to get more exercise, relax more and improve my posture.
I had my first class last night and it was harder than I ever imagined but more rewarding too.
I’m also trying to figure out what would be a good outdoor winter activity for me to take up.
I’ve tried skiing in the past and almost killed myself…
Ice fishing bore me to tears…
But there are countless more options and I need to keep trying them until I find one I like.
You can look at winter as the glass half empty or the glass half full.
Try being optimistic about it and take advantage of what it offers rather than pessimistic about its limitations.
Spring is only a few months away…
