Is Neil Strauss losing credibility in the seduction community?

Seduction Community’s post about Neil Strauss, StyleLife Academy and Rules of the Game is a great blog post. I have to give Nirvanos credit for having the balls to go where most bloggers won’t.

I never liked the idea of a mainstream author coming into the seduction community with the intentions of writing a book about it. I did not like him going on The View to promote the book. I did not like him talking shit about some of the forefathers of the community in the book. I did not like the fairy tale ending to the book which is quite ironic since Lisa ended up dumping him anyway. I do not like the fact that Lisa is coming out with her own seduction program for women and I think that Neil is probably behind it. I do not like how he is taking credit for many aspects of the community that existed before he came into it.

Nirvano’s post goes into detail on how Neil is recycling the same material and selling it over and over. It tells of some of the questionable methods and flaws of the Neil’s StyleLife Academy program. I personally get a laugh going to the StyleLife store and seeing a $36.99 “Pebble Shirt with Built-In Disqualifier” and $49.99 “THE TIE” for sale. Is StyleLife supposed to be the next Gucci?

I think Neil is an accomplished writer. He did a good job of digesting the seduction community and regurgitating it for the masses. Guys who were interested in the community felt more comfortable reading an autobiographical New York Time’s bestseller than a greasy “get laid” book. He brought in a huge influx of members into the community and to those new members he was the leader. As a businessman I have to tip my hat to him (and as a businessman, if you still choose to buy Rules of the Game you can buy it here).

But as a member of the community I think he has made his money and that it is time for him to leave and ghostwrite his next book about some quasi-celebrity. But he keeps popping up and milking the community and collecting paycheck after paycheck from it.

I know that I am not going to make any contributions to his next big check and I hope you do not either.

PS: Does anyone else find the UK cover to Rules of the Game to be hilariously cheesy? Is he supposed to be the second coming of Scarface?

Yes, I was passing by Barnes and Noble today and briefly flirted with the idea of picking up the new book to review on my site….

then i realized it would have nothing new and I’d be better off spending my time reading and reviewing stuff from people that have evolved since 2002…

Even Mystery is starting to annoy me.

My problem with buying the book strictly to review it is that you would pay $30 for it at B&N and it would be hard to recoup that cost with measly affiliate commissions from Amazon.

In all reality he should be sending us bloggers a promotional copy. It was sad to see that he wouldn’t even give Dave Navarro a promotional copy of it on his show. What a cheap shit.

As far as evolving since 2002, I think for the majority he mainly just ripped off Mystery’s material back then anyhow. There must have been some under the table agreement between those two; you let me rip off your ideas and I promote you as the premiere guru of the seduction community in my mainstream book.

Remember when it comes to Amazon, its not what you referred them there to buy… its everything they buy afterwards… this time of year amazon can be great.. I used to think Amazon was a waste, but then I’ve gone on to have some huge months with them…

can’t say the same for commission junction or linkshare.

As for Neil and Mystery.. one of them definately bit off the other. Their material is exactly the same. But in the end both of their stuff is becoming extremely played out.

if you want to read a good non ebook.. richard la ruina just sent me a copy of the natural art of seduction (amazon) to review and its pretty good….

My site obviously has a much lower volume of visitors than yours. I get 4% so I would have to generate $800 worth of sales from that review to just break even after the price of the book and tax. That is not taking into consideration my time. Sure, the review may lead to other sales on your site too but I still wouldn’t do it because I’m fucking lazy :) .

For the record, I make all my Amazon purchases through other seduction blogs’ Amazon links. Since I cannot buy through my own links it is my way of supporting the blogs that I read and learn from without having to donate money or any BS like that.

If anyone wants to support this blog they can do the same even if you are not buying what is linked to. You can click on an Amazon link for the Mystery Method book on this site (or here) and not buy it and instead buy some DVDs once you’re at Amazon and make me a bit of money.

It sounds shallow but money motivates you to make a better blog for your readers.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll buy it to read on my next plane ride.

Amazon isn’t about the sale of the book you reviewed. When someone clicks on that link their cookie is stored.

I’ve had guys go on to buy Kindles, digital cameras, cell phones… i get about 7% so it adds up.

Good point about buying through other peoples links as I don’t get credit for my own purchases.. never thought of that but I will definately start buying from the blogs I’m reading.(like yours)

Thanks for the mention of the Podcast!

Hey man, thanks for the nice comments. :) I’m busy outsourcing some of the work on my different sites, so I wasn’t even looking into them by new year’s… when i’ll revive them.

I’ve been a fan of your site for a while. I’ll add it to the directory of the best seduction resources in just a bit :)

And yeah, i think it’s about time someone started pointing this shit out…

I mean i’ve talked to a lot of newbs, and many of them are totally clueless, the vast majority of them ACTUALLY do believe neil invented the community… crazy shit. I won’t get into it here, it would be too long of a rant :D But you get the point :)
